Both replace the root of a missing tooth and fuse with the bone. Ceramic (zirconia) is metal-free, naturally white and tissue friendly, with less plaque retention and gum inflammation. Titanium is the long-established option. Dr. Moshrefi places both, and will talk you through which suits your case.
Gingivitis, the first stage, makes the gums red, swollen and quick to bleed when touched. Left untreated it becomes periodontal disease, which destroys the bone that holds the teeth and can loosen them. It is treatable, and the earlier it is seen the simpler that treatment is.
Usually one to three visits. The infected pulp is removed through a small opening, the canal is cleaned, shaped and sealed, and a crown or other restoration is placed afterwards to protect the tooth.
Every three to six months. A hygienist removes the plaque and tartar that build up above and below the gumline however well you brush, then polishes the teeth. Patients who have been treated for gum disease may need it more often.
